Finally ending her almost a year-long break, Deepika Padukone will be seen in the upcoming January, playing a role in Meghna Gulzar’s “Chhapaak”, Chhapaak trailer out. The story of “Chhapaak” is based on the true story of real-life acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal, who survived a heinous acid attack in 2005.

The actress announced the trailer release on her social media handles and also stated that “Chhapaak” was the film where she didn’t require to hear it entire and it is more than a film for her. “Chhapaak” is an entire journey in itself that Deepika will always remember. The actress previously also shared the first glimpse of her look from the film that was appreciated by her fans worldwide.

The movie starring Deepika Padukone and Vikrant Massey in lead roles follows the journey of Malti (Deepika Padukone), how she became an activist against this hideous crime from just a girl next door. The movie touches many sensitive points of society, including the gender bias leading to which character assassination of the victim before the case even gets registered and all other dark sides that society opens up for the victim of acid attack survivor.

Laxmi Agarwal, on whose life the entire movie is based was brutally attacked by a 32-year old man in 2005 after she declined the advances offered by him in the broad daylight. The trailer also shows many emotional moments from the film including the first time when the survivor (Malti) is horrified by the first look of her face after the attack. However, Malti still pulls herself together and protests against the selling of acid that can be used for burning down the faces of women.

Reportedly, Laxmi Agarwal’s petition against open selling of acid in regular drug stores was signed by 25,000 activists leading to which the supreme court banned and put a strict control over the selling of acid. Laxmi also started Chhanv Foundation after her win with the acclaimed journalist turned activist Alok Dixit whose role will be portrayed by Vikrant Massey in “Chhapaak”.

Apparently, “Chhapaak” will be slated as the first movie of Deepika after her marriage with Ranveer Singh. Deepika last appeared in the movie “Padmavaat” starring Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh along with her in pivotal roles. “Chhapaak” is directed by Meghna Gulzar, whose last movie “Raazi” was critically acclaimed which starred Alia Bhatt in lead.

“Chhapaak” stars Deepika Padukone and Vikrant Massey in pivotal roles and is produced by Fox Star Studios in association with Deepika Padukone’s own production KA Productions. The film is slated to release on 10th January 2020.
