Bollywood Actress Urmila Matondkar who is well-known for her roles in film ‘Rangeela’ has recently joined the Congress party in the national capital New Delhi on 27 March 2019. Rahul Gandhi welcomed her in the party with a bouquet of flowers and wished her the best. The 45-year-old actress is expected to be a Congress candidate in Mumbai in the national election next month, but for now, the Congress has made the announcement of it by tweeting pictures of the actress receiving a bouquet from Rahul Gandhi on the official tweeter account.

Rangeela actress traveled to capital city Delhi on Wednesday, where she met party president Rahul Gandhi. After the meeting, Matondkar was formally inducted in the Congress fold. Urmila Matondkar’s entry was facilitated by former Mumbai Congress president Sanjay Nirupam and the candidature of the actresses will be announced in the next list of the Congress party. Matondkar said that for her, it was a step towards “active politics”. She also said that she belongs to the family where everyone believed in social awareness and supports strong political ideals. At a press conference, Randeep Surjewala said that the actress will contribute to spread the Congress ideology and will also strengthen the party.

Urmila Matondkar is tipped to be Congress candidate from Mumbai North where her formidable rival would be BJP’s bastion MP Gopal Shetty. Urmila Matondkar will be the second B-Town celebrity after Govinda to contest from North as Congress nominee. Govinda (Ahuja) was the nominee of Congress in 2004 Lok Sabha elections and has earned the sobriquet of a ‘giant-killer’ after he defeated former Petroleum Minister Ram Naik of the BJP.
